U.S. Media Platform SOMM TV Produces Documentary on Georgian Wine
The feature-length documentary "Echoes of Wine" premiered on SOMM TV on July 1. The film introduces viewers to Georgia's breathtaking landscapes, vineyards, rich wine culture, and the dedication of a new generation of winemakers. It places special emphasis on the ancient tradition of qvevri winemaking and the remarkable diversity of Georgia's indigenous grape varieties.
Showcasing Georgia as one of the world's oldest winemaking nations through SOMM TV's highly regarded programming is expected to significantly increase the visibility of Georgian wine and support its sales growth in the strategically important U.S. market.
Ahead of the documentary's release, SOMM TV published a preview article on its official website titled "The Country That Keeps Calling You: Echoes of Wine." The article states:
"Georgia is a country with an extraordinary and profound connection to wine. For more than 8,000 years, wine has been made here continuously, and there is virtually no aspect of life that has not been shaped by this culture. Nestled between towering mountains at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, this unique land has become the true cradle of wine. Following an 8,000-year history and decades of Soviet rule that threatened its traditional winemaking methods, Georgian viticulture is now experiencing a remarkable renaissance."
Organized and financially supported by the National Wine Agency, the SOMM TV production team visited Georgia in May of this year. On May 8, the crew attended celebrations marking National Wine Day and visited wineries in the Kakheti and Kartli regions, where they explored Georgia's centuries-old winemaking traditions alongside its vibrant contemporary wine culture.
