Georgia Marks World Environment Day with Large-Scale Forest Clean-Up Campaign and Environmental Initiatives

To mark World Environment Day, the National Forestry Agency organized a large-scale clean-up campaign in the state forest near the village of Tvalivi, in Georgia's Mtskheta-Mtianeti region. The initiative brought together representatives from various fields, including journalists, musicians, and athletes, who joined efforts to help protect and preserve the country's forests.

World Environment Day is one of the world's largest environmental awareness campaigns, focusing each year on a pressing global environmental issue. The theme for World Environment Day 2026 is "Inspired by Nature, for the Climate, for Our Future." Established by the United Nations in 1973, the annual observance aims to raise public awareness and encourage action to protect the environment.

As part of the World Environment Day programme in Georgia, the opening event of the National Adaptation Plan (NAP) for Climate Change project will also be held. In addition, outstanding teachers participating in the "Education for a Green Future" initiative will be recognized for their contribution to environmental education.
