Georgia and the Republic of Uzbekistan Sign Three Memoranda of Understanding
As part of the official visit of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, to Georgia, three Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were signed between Georgia and the Republic of Uzbekistan at the Administration of the Government of Georgia.
The memoranda were signed by Georgia's Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, David Songulashvili, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Bakhtiyor Saidov.
"Uzbekistan is one of the key countries in Central Asia. Within the framework of the Strategic Partnership Agreement, we had the opportunity to sign three Memoranda of Understanding covering the fields of agriculture, environmental protection, and radioactive waste management. All three areas are of great importance. Each memorandum outlines priority areas of cooperation that will undoubtedly contribute to even closer relations between Georgia and Uzbekistan. They also create greater opportunities for the export of Georgian agri-food products, which will help increase farmers' incomes and support the country's economic development," said David Songulashvili.
The signed Memoranda of Understanding provide a framework for cooperation in the areas of environmental and radiation protection, nuclear safety, and agriculture.
Cooperation in the agricultural sector includes agricultural policy, plant protection, veterinary services, food safety, livestock development, and the advancement of modern agricultural technologies.
In the field of environmental protection, the memoranda cover biodiversity conservation, water and air quality management, waste management, cooperation on climate change-related issues, and the development of environmental policies.
In the area of radiation protection and nuclear safety, the agreements envisage strengthening cooperation between the respective regulatory authorities, exchanging technical information and expertise, providing specialist training, and promoting the implementation of international standards.
