Davit Songulashvili: Our Goal Is to Strengthen the Entire Agricultural Value Chain

As part of a working visit to the Kvemo Kartli region, Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Davit Songulashvili reviewed educational, industrial, scientific and farming activities in the municipalities of Dmanisi and Marneuli.

Songulashvili visited the Swiss Agricultural School Caucasus in the village of Sarkineti, Dmanisi Municipality, as well as the Marneuli Food Factory and Lomtagora farm in Marneuli Municipality. The Minister learned about vocational education and practical training opportunities, fruit and vegetable processing and the production of canned goods, as well as ongoing work in wheat production and breeding.

“Today, we had an opportunity to see first-hand the agricultural education infrastructure, local processing operations and ongoing wheat-breeding activities. These three areas provide an important foundation for developing agriculture and making better use of the country’s agricultural potential.

“The development of agriculture requires skilled professionals. It is therefore important to provide young people with opportunities to acquire modern vocational education and practical experience, enabling qualified professionals to contribute to the sector’s future development.

“Our goal is to strengthen the entire agricultural value chain. This will enable us to increase domestic production, reduce dependence on imports and expand export opportunities for Georgian agricultural products,” Davit Songulashvili said.
