David Songulashvili Discusses Ongoing Irrigation Works and Future Plans with Regional Service Heads of Georgian Amelioration
Georgia's Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, David Songulashvili, met with the General Director of Georgian Amelioration Ltd., Gigla Tamazashvili, and heads of the company's regional services to receive updates on ongoing irrigation projects, existing challenges, and future plans.
The main objective of the meeting was to assess rehabilitation and operational activities being carried out across the regions, identify current needs, and discuss issues that will contribute to ensuring uninterrupted and high-quality services for water users.
"Meetings of this kind allow us to review ongoing processes, hear about challenges in the regions, and directly determine where additional support is needed. Irrigation is one of the important priorities today. We are actively implementing rehabilitation works, have large-scale plans, and are cooperating with international organizations and donors to carry out major infrastructure projects. Rehabilitation works have been affected by various factors, including weather conditions; however, it is essential that activities continue and that farmers do not face disruptions in water supply during the irrigation season," said David Songulashvili.
During the meeting, General Director of Georgian Amelioration Gigla Tamazashvili highlighted the importance of the company's regional services and noted that meetings in this format contribute to better coordination of ongoing works, timely identification of challenges, and more effective planning of future steps.
"It is important that the Minister received direct information from regional services on the issues that are currently the most relevant and prioritized. During the meeting, we discussed both rehabilitation and operational works. It is noteworthy that the level of contracted projects remains high and that activities are being carried out actively despite weather conditions. We have also planned field visits, during which the Minister will personally inspect ongoing works in the regions," said Gigla Tamazashvili.
The meeting, held at the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, was attended by Deputy Minister Lasha Dolidze and Head of the Ministry's Irrigation and Land Management Policy Department, Beka Dzadzamia.
