Uniki Company Launches Sewing Workshop amid Growing Demand for Baby Coveralls and Rompers

Sales of Georgian baby clothes manufacturing company Uniki started growing amid the pandemic.
"I decided to produce baby clothes after I could not find and buy comfortable and nice clothes for my baby", the company founder Magda Zakariashvili noted.

Initially, Uniki clothes were sewed by an 83-year-old grandma. The designs were prepared by Magda Zakariashvili and her sister, but now Zakariashvili won a grant and launched her own enterprise in the village of Kvemo Chala, Kaspi District. The company employs 4 local residents but plans to hire more workers amid the growing demand.

"We are oriented on the production of coveralls and short rompers, but we also plan to add dresses and accessories. I am not good at sewing. Initially, we used to sew our products at another workshop, but two weeks ago, we opened our own sewing enterprise in the village and employed two tailors, one assistant, and one intern. We have opened our sewing enterprise through a government grant”, Zakariashvili noted.

As for sales, we have growing trends. Uniki was founded a year ago and both production and sales have been growing on a monthly basis. Our sales have increased 10 times as compared to the previous year, she noted.

“We cannot fully satisfy the existing demand. Therefore, we have opened a new enterprise and plan to expand it. The pandemic has positively affected Uniki sales because customers were redirected to online shopping platforms and the demand grows.

The demand for our products is growing on both Georgian online platforms and stores that export products to foreign markets. Therefore, we plan to export our products abroad too.

Now, we have applied for micro and small entrepreneurship grant project of Enterprise Georgia. We were selected for the second stage. Thanks to this grant, we will buy machinery to produce a wider range of clothes, employ more citizens and develop our products further”, Magda Zakariasvhili noted.
