Pingo Launches 0% Sugar Ice Cream for Diabetics
Pingo has started producing diabetic-friendly, 0% sugar ice cream. As the company’s co-founder, Davit Gelashvili, told Business Partner, interest in the new product is high.
According to him, competition in the diabetic ice cream segment is relatively low, which is why the company expects sales growth.
“We make our diabetic ice cream using stevia, which is distinguished by its high quality and very good taste characteristics. In addition, we have added two more varieties — one with jam and another with pistachio.
We have also added refrigerators in many locations and expect sales growth during the summer season. At this stage, compared to the same period last year, we do not have growth, although we have not seen a decline either. The reason is the weather, as spring has been quite cold and, since ice cream is a seasonal product, sales have not increased. It is also difficult to speak about summer expectations, because we are completely dependent on the weather,” Davit Gelashvili said.
He also noted that the company constantly tries to avoid adjusting prices, however, due to the rising cost of raw materials, the price of their products increased by approximately 10% this year.
For reference, ice cream producer Pingo entered the market in 2014. The company’s factory is located near Lilo in Tbilisi. Around 40 types of Pingo ice cream are available in both chain and non-chain retail stores.
