Nino Tandilashvili Presents Amendments to Environmental Assessment Code to Business Community

First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Nino Tandilashvili, presented the proposed amendments to the Environmental Assessment Code to member companies of the Georgian Business Association during a working meeting held at the Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee of the Parliament of Georgia.

“We introduced the amendments to the Environmental Assessment Code to the business sector. It is important that the environmental permitting process is as flexible as possible—so that it does not hinder economic activity, facilitates the development of both public and private investment projects, and still ensures compliance with environmental standards. The changes were positively received by the business community,” said Nino Tandilashvili.

She also emphasized the importance of maintaining alignment with international standards:

“It is also essential that we remain within the framework of international standards set by European directives and the Association Agreement.”

It is worth noting that the Environmental Assessment Code has been in force since 2018 and was one of the first legislative acts to fully align Georgia’s national legislation with the EU Environmental Impact Assessment and Strategic Environmental Assessment Directives.
