State to Subsidize Grape Purchases in Racha-Lechkhumi During 2025 Harvest
The grape harvest is entering its active phase, with picking expected to begin in the Racha-Lechkhumi region in early October. To ensure the organized conduct of the 2025 harvest, the government has approved support measures specifically for this region.
A key priority remains the development of the viticulture and winemaking sector in Racha-Lechkhumi, particularly the promotion of Khvanchkara — a wine with protected designation of origin status.
As part of the 2025 harvest, a subsidy program will support wine companies that purchase and process at least 3 tons of Alexandrouli and Mujuretuli grapes grown in the Khvanchkara microzone. These companies must pay growers at least 8 GEL per kilogram. In return, they will receive a state subsidy of 4 GEL per kilogram for both grape varieties.
From 2026 onward, the government plans to introduce a new approach to supporting viticulture and winemaking in the region, shifting the focus toward grape quality. This is intended to enhance the overall quality of Georgian wine, thereby boosting its competitiveness in international markets.
