National Wine Agency Reports Decrease in Quality Control Violations in 2025
According to the National Wine Agency, relevant services are regularly monitoring the quality of alcoholic beverages to ensure that tens of millions of liters of Georgian wine and other alcoholic products meet international standards, remain competitive, and continue to grow in global demand.
“According to data from January–September 2025, within the framework of state control—which verifies the compliance of technological winemaking processes with Georgian legislation—561 samples were taken from 135 companies. Violations were identified in 11 samples across 8 companies.
During the same period, inspection control was carried out in 56 companies to determine whether alcoholic beverages submitted for certification matched the declared production lot. Out of 1,091 samples tested, violations were detected in 14 samples from 6 companies.
In customs clearance zones, the National Wine Agency’s contracted international companies, Bureau Veritas LLC and SGS LLC, inspected 98 companies. Out of 365 samples taken, only 1 sample from 1 company was found to be in violation.
For the purpose of organoleptic testing of alcoholic beverages intended for export, 201 tastings were conducted. Out of 9,643 samples submitted, 365 received negative evaluations, while 9,278 samples were approved. Organoleptic testing evaluates color and clarity, varietal typicity, presence of defects, aroma, taste, and overall harmony.
Compared to the same period last year, the number of violations has decreased,” the National Wine Agency stated.
