National Wine Agency Hosts University of Geisenheim Researcher as Part of EU-Funded Eco2Wine Project

As part of the EU Horizon Europe training project Eco2Wine, the National Wine Agency of Georgia hosted Capucine Dentraygues, a doctoral student from the University of Geisenheim.

The Eco2Wine project, launched in 2023 with the involvement of the National Wine Agency, aims to enhance global innovation and communication in winemaking, with a focus on sustainability, authenticity, and consumer perception.

During her visit to Georgia, Capucine Dentraygues conducted a field study exploring Georgian wine consumers’ perceptions of natural, traditional, and microbiologically improved winemaking methods. The study examined how these factors influence consumer evaluations of a wine's authenticity, sustainability, and health benefits. The results are currently under analysis and will be published in the coming months.

Eco2Wine is designed to develop future winemaking strategies based on scientific research. The project is coordinated by the University of Milan and involves academic and industry partners from Georgia, Italy, Germany, France, Spain, Slovenia, and South Africa.

Participating institutions include:

  • Technical University of Georgia

  • University of Milan

  • University of Burgundy

  • University of Geisenheim

  • University of Perugia

  • University of Ljubljana

  • University of Cadiz

  • University of Stellenbosch

  • Spanish National Research Council

Each country’s wine industry representatives also contribute to the initiative.

The Eco2Wine project is funded with a budget of up to €2.4 million and will be implemented over a four-year period.
