Levan Mekhuzla Participates in World Wine Trade Group Workshop in Canada

At the annual meeting of the World Wine Trade Group (WWTG), held in Kelowna, Canada, on October 26–29, participants discussed updates to wine trade regulatory agreements and strategies for sustainable sector development.

“At the meeting, we discussed ways to help wine producers overcome trade barriers and the role of governments in supporting the wine industry. Georgia’s main goal in participating in the World Wine Trade Group is to strengthen the export potential of Georgian wine and diversify export markets so that more unique, high-quality Georgian wines can enter the international marketplace,” said Levan Mekhuzla, Chairman of the National Wine Agency.

The workshop also addressed the WWTG’s role in implementing global wine market initiatives, the promotion of trade in low-alcohol and non-alcoholic beverages, and the use of artificial intelligence in the organization’s activities.

Founded in 1998, the World Wine Trade Group unites wine-producing countries. Its members include Georgia, the United States, Argentina, Australia, Canada, Chile, New Zealand, South Africa, and Uruguay. The main mission of the organization is to facilitate international wine trade and take joint action to remove trade barriers. WWTG is considered one of the most important platforms for information exchange and coordinated policymaking in the global wine sector.

Georgia chaired the World Wine Trade Group for one-year rotating terms in 2014 and 2023, and both chairmanships were positively assessed by member countries. Canada is the current chair of the WWTG.
