Key Wine Industry Issues Discussed at OIV Spring Session in France

Levan Mekhuzla is attending the Spring Session of the International Organisation of Vine and Wine, held in Dijon, France.

The session covers key topics including sustainable viticulture development, climate change, management of vine diseases, new technologies in viticulture, quality control, international regulations, and competitiveness in the global wine market.

The Chairman of the National Wine Agency of Georgia is also participating in working meetings of the Economics and Law Commission, as well as the Scientific and Executive Committees.

Within the framework of the Spring Session, discussions are also being held regarding the possibility of hosting the OIV Congress in Georgia in 2027.

Georgia officially submitted its application in 2025 to become the host country for the 2027 OIV Congress.

It is worth noting that Georgia has previously hosted major OIV international events twice—first in 1962, when it hosted the 33rd International Congress, and again in 2010, when it hosted the 8th OIV General Assembly.

The OIV is an intergovernmental organization comprising 51 member countries, including Georgia. Its activities include developing recommendations on wine production and winemaking practices, viticulture, and grape processing for the food industry, as well as supporting the creation and enforcement of international standards in the wine sector.
