International Wine Conference Held in Tbilisi as Part of Georgia’s National Wine Day Celebrations
As part of Georgia’s National Wine Day celebrations, an international conference is being held at the National Youth Palace in Tbilisi.
Participants are discussing the progress and future plans of the program “Scientific Research of Georgian Vine and Wine Culture,” through which the international scientific community recognized Georgia as the birthplace of wine in 2017.
The conference also addresses the current state of the global wine sector, emerging challenges, and the specific characteristics of international wine markets.
The event brings together representatives of Georgia’s wine industry, scientists, Georgian and international wine professionals, including Director General of the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV), John Barker; Head of the Scientific Project for the Research of Georgian Vine and Wine Culture, Professor Davit Maghradze; Director of the Georgian National Museum, Academician Davit Lordkipanidze; Professor Stephen Batiuk of the University of Toronto; Professor Gabriele Cola of the University of Milan; Professor Gergely Szolnoki of Geisenheim University; Masters of Wine Debra Meiburg, Lisa Perrotti-Brown, and Konstantin Baum; as well as wine expert and author Robert Joseph, among others.
The conference was officially opened by the President of Georgia, Mikheil Kavelashvili.
Participants were welcomed by the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze; Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Davit Songulashvili; and Director General of the International Organisation of Vine and Wine, John Barker.
The conference serves as an important platform for discussing the future of the global wine industry while highlighting Georgia’s unique role as the cradle of winemaking and advancing international cooperation in wine research, production, and promotion.
