A Georgian wine tasting event was recently held in Düsseldorf, Germany, organized with the financial support of Georgia’s National Wine Agency and curated by renowned German sommelier and influencer Toni Askitis. The initiative is part of Georgia’s broader strategy to promote its wine on international markets.
Toni Askitis, known for his widely followed #AskToni channel, hosted the tasting at his wine bar “Pelican Fly” and also led an outdoor session titled “Tasting in the Park,” which brought Georgian wine to a wider audience in a relaxed and informal setting.
Germany, the largest wine importer in Europe, has been designated a strategic export market for Georgian wine since 2020. Since then, it has consistently ranked among the top ten destinations for Georgian wine exports, a trend that continues to grow.
The event in Düsseldorf is one of several ongoing activities under the National Wine Agency’s promotional campaign in Germany. The campaign includes tasting seminars in major German cities targeting wine professionals, trade representatives, and consumers. Georgian wines are also being featured in international exhibitions, and the country is investing in targeted advertising and media campaigns. In addition, the agency is organizing wine tours to Georgia for sommeliers, journalists, and sales professionals to deepen their understanding of Georgian wine culture and expand future export potential.
These efforts reflect Georgia’s strategic focus on expanding its global wine footprint and reinforcing its reputation as one of the world’s oldest winemaking countries.
