Georgia–China Cooperation in Viticulture and Winemaking Deepens

A delegation of scientists specializing in viticulture and winemaking from Ningxia Province, China, visited the Jighaura base of the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture of Georgia.

Professor Levan Ujmajuridze, Director of the Scientific-Research Center, presented the center’s capabilities, current research activities, and future plans to the guests.

“The Center has had a long-standing partnership with Ningxia Province, based on an official memorandum that focuses on research in grape genetic resource preservation and propagation, as well as innovative approaches in viticulture and winemaking. Our aim is to lay the groundwork for future multifaceted research projects that will strengthen technological and scientific dialogue between our countries and help promote wines made from Georgian grape varieties in the Chinese market,” said Levan Ujmajuridze.

The guests toured the ampelographic collection, research laboratories, and the grape and wine museum space at the Jighaura base. They also sampled wines made from unique Georgian grape varieties.

The Chinese colleagues formally invited Professor Ujmajuridze to participate as a speaker at the upcoming International Terroir and Wine Culture Biennale in Ningxia. This invitation underscores the deepening partnership and ongoing cooperation between the two countries.

The Chinese delegation was led by Huang Ximing, General Director of the Administrative Committee of the Wine Industry Zone in Helan Region, Ningxia. The delegation also included representatives from viticulture and winemaking administrations, agronomic engineers, scientists from agricultural research institutes, and university professors.
