“Georgia Has Officially Submitted an Application to Host the OIV Congress in 2027 – A Great Honor for Our Country,” Says Levan Mekhuzla

Chairman of the National Wine Agency Levan Mekhuzla: “Georgia has officially submitted an application to become the host country of the OIV Congress in 2027”

The Chairman of the National Wine Agency, Levan Mekhuzla, participated in the 46th World Congress of the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV), held in Chisinau, the capital of Moldova.

The main theme of this year’s Congress was “The Path to the Future of Vine and Wine: Sustainability, Increasing Value, Strengthening Innovation.”

“We held business meetings with OIV leadership within the framework of the Congress. Notably, Georgia has officially submitted a bid to host the OIV Congress in 2027 — a great honor for our country. The OIV’s decision will be announced this fall. Georgia has previously hosted international OIV events twice: the 33rd International Congress in 1962 and the 8th General Assembly in 2010. As an ancient winemaking country with a modern and thriving wine industry, Georgia maintains close ties with the OIV — a vital relationship for the development of our sector, the production of high-quality Georgian wine, and its global recognition,” said Mekhuzla.

The International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV) is an intergovernmental body comprising 51 member countries, including Georgia. The organization’s activities include setting standards and making recommendations on viticulture, winemaking practices, and grape processing for the food industry. It also supports other international bodies in establishing global wine sector standards.

It is also worth noting that OIV Secretary General John Barker paid a working visit to Georgia in May 2025.
