163 Thousand Tons of Grapes Processed in Kakheti as of September 30

As of September 30, about 163,000 tons of grapes have been processed in the Kakheti region, according to information released by the National Wine Agency.

Around 13,000 winegrowers have delivered grapes to wineries. The harvest is underway in all municipalities of Kakheti. Of the grapes processed, approximately 78,000 tons are Rkatsiteli, about 74,000 tons are Saperavi, and the remainder are various other grape varieties.

About 550 wine companies and cellars are registered with the Harvest Coordination Headquarters; 330 of them have already been involved in grape reception and processing at various stages.

This year, Kakheti is expected to produce between 200,000 and 250,000 tons of grapes. By decision of the Government of Georgia, the state enterprise LLC “Crop Management Company” will collect surplus grapes at differentiated prices based on quality: Saperavi grapes grown in Kakheti – 1.50 GEL, other wine varieties permitted under the Law of Georgia “On Vine and Wine” – 1.20 GEL, and substandard or damaged grapes – 1.00 GEL. Subsidies will no longer be issued to private wine companies in the region.
