U.S. Embassy: Visa Bond Program Is Now Permanent in Georgia

The U.S. Embassy in Georgia has issued additional clarification regarding the Visa Bond program after the U.S. Department of State made the initiative permanent.

According to the embassy, the program now permanently applies in all countries where it had previously been introduced, including Georgia. As a result, Georgian citizens whose B1/B2 (tourist/business) visa applications are approved may be required to pay a visa bond of $10,000, $15,000, or $20,000.

The embassy emphasizes that applicants should not pay the bond in advance. If a bond is required, the consular officer will provide payment instructions during the visa interview.

"The official source of information regarding U.S. visa applications is the U.S. government. Any information that does not come from an official U.S. government source should be verified," the embassy said in its statement.

The U.S. Department of State launched the Visa Bond program in August 2025, and Georgia was added to the program on April 2, 2026. Under the program, a consular officer may require an individual applicant to post a visa bond as a condition of visa issuance.

In addition, newly issued B1/B2 visas are valid for a single entry, have a validity period of three months, and allow visitors to remain in the United States for up to 30 days.

The bond is fully refundable, provided the visa holder complies with all visa conditions and departs the United States within the authorized period.
