"The Memorandum with Hungary’s Ministry of Energy Marks a Key Stage in Our Partnership" – Davit Songulashvili

A government delegation, led by Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, is on an official visit to Hungary. As part of the visit, the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Davit Songulashvili, met with Hungary’s Minister of Energy, Csaba Lantos, and signed a memorandum of cooperation.

During the meeting, the parties discussed cooperation between the two countries in the fields of effective waste management and the development of a circular economy.

"Thank you for your unwavering support and constructive cooperation. Establishing a circular economy is one of the strategic priorities of the Georgian government on the path to sustainable economic development. With the active involvement of international partners, this process is already underway. I would also like to highlight how valuable it is for us to exchange information on Hungary’s waste management system. It is equally important to consider that one of the main pillars of your policy is raising public awareness, which is crucial for ensuring public engagement and support for environmental policy," said Davit Songulashvili.

Within the framework of the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Georgia’s Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture and Hungary’s Ministry of Energy, focused on cooperation in the areas of environmental protection and climate change.

The purpose of the memorandum is to promote bilateral cooperation in environmental protection and climate-related areas.

"The memorandum signed with Hungary’s Ministry of Energy marks a key stage in our partnership. This agreement creates a solid and structured framework to support effective and targeted cooperation," said Minister Songulashvili.

Notably, the memorandum between Georgia’s Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture and Hungary’s Ministry of Energy envisions cooperation in the following areas: integrated water resource management, development of river basin management plans, climate change mitigation and adaptation efforts. The memorandum also includes provisions for knowledge sharing and information exchange, particularly regarding environmental legislation, strategies, and planning.
