Songulashvili: “Farmers in Imereti Now Have Access to High-Quality Services from the National Food Agency”

Davit Songulashvili, Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, met with employees of the regional office of the National Food Agency in Imereti and reviewed the agency’s material and technical capabilities on site.

Minister Songulashvili emphasized the importance of the National Food Agency’s effective operation in the region, highlighting that all three of its key functions — food safety, veterinary services, and plant protection — are crucial for the development of the agricultural sector.

According to the Minister, strengthening the capacity of regional offices — through qualified personnel, proper infrastructure, and modern equipment — ensures the effective implementation of agricultural development and environmental protection policies.

During the meeting, it was noted that residents of the Imereti region, including farmers, now have the opportunity to access high-quality services from the National Food Agency locally.

According to Giorgi Iakobashvili, Deputy Head of the National Food Agency, infrastructure projects implemented with the support of the Ministry have significantly increased the capacity and service quality of the agency’s regional departments.

“The Imereti regional office covers 12 municipalities, where inspectors work continuously to monitor consumer markets, conduct veterinary activities including free animal vaccinations, and implement plant protection measures, particularly those targeting the brown marmorated stink bug (BMSB),” said Iakobashvili.

Minister Songulashvili was accompanied by MP Zviad Shalamberidze, who represents Tkibuli, Terjola, Zestaponi, and Baghdati in Parliament, Deputy Ministers Kakhaber Kakabadze and Solomon Pavliashvili, Imereti State Representative Levan Zalkaliani, and Giorgi Darchia, Director of the Rural Development Agency.
