Representatives of the State Agricultural Laboratory participated in an international conference held in Almaty
The Director of the State Agricultural Laboratory, Irakli Guledani, and Biosafety Officer Ana Kekelidze participated in the international conference “Future Challenges of Biosafety and Biodefense,” held in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
The conference was organized by the International Science and Technology Center (ISTC), the Biosafety Association for Central Asia and the Caucasus (BACAC), and the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ).
The conference topics included:

Achievements in synthetic biology and gene editing (e.g., CRISPR-Cas9),

The role of artificial intelligence in bioengineering and pathogen design,

Understanding biological threats,

Democratization of biotechnology and access to genetic engineering tools,

Impact of climate change on disease surveillance and biosafety,

Ethical and legal challenges in biosafety.
The event was attended by biosafety and biodefense experts, researchers, and laboratory heads from Central Asia and Eastern Partnership countries. Participants discussed the latest scientific developments related to biological threats, with particular focus on innovative approaches to risk reduction.
Participation in such conferences enables the State Agricultural Laboratory of Georgia to exchange best practices and proven methods in the field of biosafety and biodefense.
