“Products Made at the Poka Convent Are a Strong Example of Georgian Agricultural Products and the Development of Local Production”
Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Davit Songulashvili visited the production facilities at St Nino’s Convent in the village of Poka, Ninotsminda Municipality, where he learned about the production of dairy products made by the nuns.
St Nino’s Convent in Poka produces a variety of goods and is particularly well known for its cheeses, which combine local conditions with European production techniques.
“The cheese, honey and other products made at the Poka Convent are a strong example of the development of local production. Our goal is to support the production of high-quality local goods and strengthen their position in the market,” Davit Songulashvili said.
The Poka Convent is located on the shore of Lake Paravani and is one of the most important tourist and cultural sites in the Samtskhe-Javakheti region. The convent produces a range of products, including dairy products, honey and chocolate. These products are sold at a local shop, and demand continues to grow as the number of visitors increases.
The Minister was accompanied by Deputy Ministers Giorgi Tskrialashvili and Lasha Avaliani, Head of the National Food Agency Giorgi Iakobashvili, and Samvel Manukyan, the Georgian Parliament’s delegate for the municipalities of Akhalkalaki and Ninotsminda.
