Meeting Held with School Students at the Ministry to Raise Awareness about the Harmful Effects of Plastic
To raise awareness about the harmful impact of plastic, a meeting was held with school students at the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, organized by the Ministry’s Environmental Information and Education Centre.
During the meeting, Irma Gurguliani, Deputy Head of the Waste and Chemical Substances Management Policy Department, spoke to the students about the dangers associated with plastic and the importance of reducing its use.
It was emphasized that excessive plastic consumption is a major challenge for both public health and environmental protection — in Georgia, just as in the rest of the world.
According to data shared at the meeting, approximately 612.5 million units of single-use plastic cups, lids, food containers, knives, forks, spoons, straws, plates and stir sticks are used in Georgia every year, which amounts to 3.9–5.9 thousand tons of plastic waste.
