Lasha Dolidze Discusses Expanding Agricultural Cooperation with Turkish Delegation
Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Lasha Dolidze, met with Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Forestry of the Republic of Türkiye, Ahmet Bağcı, and former Minister of Food, Agriculture and Livestock of Türkiye and candidate for Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Mehmet Mehdi Eker, within the framework of the 35th FAO Regional Conference for Europe and Central Asia.
During the meeting, the parties discussed existing areas of cooperation between Georgia and Türkiye in the agri-food sector, as well as future prospects for collaboration. Particular attention was given to irrigation and drainage management, the efficient use of water resources, and opportunities to deepen cooperation in the introduction of modern irrigation technologies.
The participants noted that, in the context of climate change, sustainable water resource management and the adoption of modern agricultural technologies are among the key prerequisites for the development of the agricultural sector. In this regard, they emphasized the importance of sharing experience and practical knowledge to support the implementation of effective and innovative approaches within the industry.
The discussion also covered the export potential of Georgian agri-food products in the Turkish market. It was noted that strengthening trade and economic relations and expanding sectoral cooperation between the two countries create significant opportunities for increasing Georgian exports and enhancing regional economic collaboration.
Lasha Dolidze highlighted the ongoing reforms in Georgia’s agricultural sector, the introduction of international standards, and the importance of developing sustainable agri-food systems. According to the Deputy Minister, cooperation with international partners remains one of the Ministry’s key priorities and plays an important role in increasing the sector’s competitiveness.
The parties reaffirmed their commitment to continuing active cooperation both bilaterally and through international platforms. They noted that such collaboration will contribute to the implementation of joint initiatives aimed at advancing agriculture, food security, and sustainable development across the region.
