"IFAD Is an Important Partner for Georgia" – Deputy Minister Lasha Dolidze Highlights Strategic Cooperation in Rural Development

Lasha Dolidze, Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, emphasized the importance of long-standing cooperation with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) during a meeting with IFAD Vice-President Gerardine Mukeshimana.

IFAD is an important partner for Georgia, having made a significant contribution to rural development and sustainable agriculture,” said Dolidze.
He highlighted the success of several joint initiatives, including the flagship project ‘Developing Diverse and Inclusive Markets for Rural Areas’ (DiMMA). The project has played a key role in supporting smallholder farmers by enhancing market access, strengthening agricultural value chains, and promoting climate-smart agricultural practices.

The meeting also addressed the development of a new irrigation project, identified as a strategic priority for Georgia, particularly in the context of climate change. The implementation of modern, efficient irrigation systems is vital for strengthening national food security and enhancing climate resilience.

“We aim to identify and implement effective, demand-driven initiatives with IFAD that address the evolving needs of Georgia’s rural population,” Dolidze added at the conclusion of the meeting.

Vice-President Mukeshimana praised the fruitful collaboration with the Georgian side and expressed IFAD’s readiness to deepen future cooperation.
