“Georgian Agricultural Products Must Be Directly Associated With High Quality”

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture spoke about the importance of product quality and the organized collection of the harvest.

“The state played an active role in collecting low-quality, non-standard apples. Now the citrus harvesting season is underway. Two weeks ago, we were in Adjara, where — with the coordination of the Government of Adjara and our support — a coordination headquarters was opened. Our primary task is to ensure we receive a high-quality harvest; at the same time, it is essential that the harvest we receive is properly and fully collected,” said Davit Songulashvili.

According to the Minister, Georgian agricultural products must be directly associated with high quality. This is the main goal, which will be achieved through consistent reform.

As of today, the 15 fruit-processing enterprises involved in the state program have collected over 30,000 tons of non-standard apples. As a result, farmers received more than 9 million GEL in income, while state funding totaled over 3 million GEL.

The program supporting the sale of non-standard apples ensures the full collection of the harvest. Non-standard apples are purchased by fruit-processing companies in the regions of Shida Kartli, Kakheti, Samtskhe–Javakheti, Mtskheta–Mtianeti, and Racha–Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti.

It is noteworthy that from 1 August to 16 November 2025, Georgia exported 4.8 thousand tons of apples worth USD 3.4 million.

Compared to the same period last year, the volume of exported apples increased by 7% (299 tons), while the value increased by 19% (USD 542,000).
