Georgia Prioritizes Food Security and Agricultural Growth
“Since 2012, agro-food production has been growing annually by 7–8%,” said Davit Songulashvili.
The Minister spoke about the state vision for agricultural development in Georgia, noting that the sector has experienced significant progress since 2012.
“Agriculture was in a severely weakened state. Under the current government, the sector has received full attention. Since 2012, agro-food production has been increasing by 7–8% annually. It is common practice to review policies every 10–15 years. In our case, this process is also influenced by geopolitical conditions, disruptions in supply chains in our region, a fragile regional environment, and rising prices for fuel and pesticides. All these factors are key components of agricultural production, and the changes have accelerated the need to reassess agricultural policy. Today, one of the major global challenges is food security, which is why this has become one of our main priorities,” Davit Songulashvili stated.
According to the Minister, improving the self-sufficiency ratio and further encouraging export growth are among the key focus areas. These priorities are reflected in the Ministry’s projects and programs.
