Georgia Launches Development of National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan

The process of developing Georgia’s National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP) has officially begun.

The first information meeting was held as part of the “Global Biodiversity Framework – Supporting Early Action” project, which aims to support the preparation of the NBSAP document.

The meeting was attended by Nino Tandilashvili, First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture. In her remarks, Tandilashvili emphasized that the NBSAP will define Georgia’s strategic priorities for biodiversity protection over the coming years.

The project is being implemented by the Environmental Information and Education Center, in collaboration with the Biodiversity and Forestry Department of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture. It is supported by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and financed by the Global Environment Facility (GEF).

The National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan will align with the requirements of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF).
