Georgia Establishes New Agency for Information Technology, Environmental and Agri Services Development
The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia has established a new Legal Entity of Public Law (LEPL) – the Agency for Information Technology, Environmental and Agri Services Development – through the integration of the Ministry's centralized information technology management, telephone service center, and service development functions. The relevant government decree will enter into force on 20 July 2026.
At present, the Ministry's Centralized Information Technology Department provides services to the Ministry and 17 agencies within its system. The department manages and stores data for more than 250 digital services and software applications. Its responsibilities include business process analysis, IT project management, administration of network infrastructure and data centers, software development, geographic information systems (GIS) administration, and technical support for users.
The establishment of the new Agency is intended to create a unified vision and coordinated management system for information technology, customer service, and digital service development. The new structure will significantly reduce the duplication of functions, accelerate decision-making processes, optimize operational costs through more efficient use of budgetary resources, and further improve the development of customer-oriented digital services.
By consolidating these functions into a single institution, the Agency will serve as a central information hub, providing an integrated system for managing data, digital services, technological infrastructure, and customer requests. The new model is expected to enhance operational efficiency, strengthen interagency coordination, and support the continued digital transformation of the Ministry's services.
