Georgia Can Compete Through Quality Agricultural Products and Strong Export Potential, Says Minister Davit Songulashvili

According to Georgia’s Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Davit Songulashvili, the country has the potential not only to replace imports but also, due to its geographic location, to become an attractive supplier for export markets.

“Georgia is a country with limited agricultural land, which means we cannot compete in the production of mass-market agricultural products. However, our country has the resources to be highly competitive in the production of high-quality products, for which there is significant demand today.

Agriculture is a long-term sector, making it particularly important to define the right policies. Over the years, a number of important steps have been taken that have laid the foundation for the development of new initiatives.

Both Georgian and international experts have been involved in the development of the Agricultural Co-Financing Project. We have incorporated the best practices of countries with limited agricultural land resources. The project is built on knowledge and experience and is designed to deliver tangible results to farmers in the shortest possible time.

Last year, we held meetings with farmers in every region of Georgia, identifying a number of challenges and needs. All of our decisions are based directly on the needs expressed by farmers,” Davit Songulashvili stated.
