David Songulashvili, Georgia’s Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, held a bilateral meeting with Avi Dichter, Israel’s Minister of Agriculture and Food Safety, to discuss the future of agricultural collaboration between the two countries.
During the meeting, the parties agreed to establish a working group focused on enhancing cooperation in both agriculture and trade. A memorandum of cooperation will be drafted to formalize the initiative.
Minister Songulashvili expressed gratitude to the Israeli side for the longstanding partnership and emphasized the potential for further collaboration:
“There are great opportunities between the two countries in terms of agricultural trade and experience sharing. The working group will identify shared priorities, and the memorandum we prepare will become a strong foundation for deeper ties.”
The discussion also highlighted Georgia’s export potential for products such as wine, honey, and dried fruits in the Israeli market. Conversely, Georgia aims to import modern Israeli agricultural technologies, including advanced irrigation systems.
Avi Dichter, on his first official visit to Georgia, praised the meeting:
“This was a very productive discussion with the Minister and his team. We are committed to establishing a group that will take Georgia-Israel relations to a new level. There’s much we can learn from each other.”
The meeting was attended by Deputy Ministers Lasha Dolidze, Kakha Kakabadze, and Zurab Ezugbaia; heads of agencies within the Ministry; Walid Abu Haya, Israel’s newly appointed Ambassador to Georgia; and representatives of the Georgia-Israel Chamber of Commerce.
