European Council Grants Candidate Status to Georgia

In a landmark decision, the European Council has granted Georgia the status of a candidate country, while also initiating accession negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova, as announced by the President of the European Council on Twitter.

"The European Council has resolved to commence accession talks with Ukraine and Moldova. Furthermore, Georgia has been accorded candidate status. The EU is set to begin negotiations with Bosnia-Herzegovina once it fulfills the membership criteria. The Council has requested the Commission to draft a report by March," stated Charles Michel in his tweet.

This pivotal move marks a significant step forward in Georgia's journey towards European integration, reflecting the nation's progress and alignment with European values and standards.
