Davit Songulashvili: This Year Georgia Recorded Its Largest Grape Harvest — 340,000 Tons

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture summarized the 2025 grape harvest (Rtveli) and stated that this year, Georgia recorded the largest grape harvest in the history of independent Georgia — 340,000 tons.

“In Kakheti alone, which is the main winemaking region, nearly 330,000 tons of grapes were harvested — 40,000 tons more than last year. In Racha, up to 3,000 tons of grapes were harvested, whereas in previous years the figure was around 1,500 tons, not more. With such a harvest, the first challenge was to ensure that Rtveli was carried out in a highly organized manner and that the entire harvest was fully collected. Storing this volume of grapes requires appropriate capacity.

Around 22,000 growers delivered their harvest, which was processed jointly by the private sector and the state. In total, during the harvest period, 475 million GEL entered the sector — an unprecedented and significant figure. I would also like to note that this year, for the first time, no Rtveli subsidy was implemented; instead, the state purchased the surplus harvest from the population,” said Davit Songulashvili.

According to the Minister, this year, for the first time, grapes were purchased at differentiated prices based on quality. In the future, quality requirements will become even stricter, and even more emphasis will be placed on grape quality. In this regard, the National Wine Agency will issue relevant announcements, which growers should pay close attention to. Producing high-quality harvests is fundamentally important.
