Davit Songulashvili Meets with Azerbaijan’s Minister of Agriculture Majnun Mammadov and Delegation Members
The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Davit Songulashvili, met with the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Majnun Mammadov, along with members of the Azerbaijani delegation.
During the meeting, the parties discussed opportunities for future cooperation in the field of agriculture, including prospects for strengthening trade and economic relations between the two countries.
“Azerbaijan’s Prime Minister Ali Asadov’s participation in the Tbilisi Silk Road Forum, and now the visit of Azerbaijan’s Minister of Agriculture to Tbilisi, once again underline the high-level political relations between our countries,” said Davit Songulashvili.
The Georgian Minister introduced his Azerbaijani counterpart to the state programs supporting the development of the agricultural sector and emphasized the importance of the memorandum signed between Georgia and Azerbaijan aimed at promoting trade in agricultural products and foodstuffs. He highlighted Georgian agricultural products with strong export potential.
The discussion also covered cooperation in the areas of food safety, veterinary services, phytosanitary measures, as well as scientific research and sectoral educational programs, stressing the importance of knowledge and experience sharing.
During the meeting, it was agreed that, in order to increase the effectiveness of sector-specific cooperation in agriculture, it would be beneficial to establish working groups between the two countries.
“We agreed to create a joint working group between our ministries. We believe that this working group will significantly enhance cooperation between our countries, especially in the agricultural and food sectors. We discussed expanding trade in agricultural products — this was certainly a crucial and central topic during the meeting with the Minister,” said Azerbaijan’s Minister of Agriculture Majnun Mammadov.
The meeting was attended by the Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Georgia Faig Guliyev, First Deputy Minister Nino Tandilashvili, Deputy Ministers Lasha Dolidze and Lasha Avaliani, and heads of relevant departments of the Georgian ministry.
