David Songulashvili: Cycle tourism creates a favorable environment for the development of local tourism and the economy

At the initiative of the wine company “Château Zegaani,” an international cycling competition is being held in Kakheti. The two-day event features more than 150 professional cyclists from various countries.

The opening ceremony of the cycling competition was attended by the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, David Songulashvili, and the State Representative in the Kakheti region, Giorgi Aladashvili.

The international cycling competition organized by “Château Zegaani” aims to develop cycle tourism in Georgia, promote a healthy lifestyle, and popularize wine culture through sports activities. This contributes to the growth of the tourism and economic potential of the Kakheti region. Such practices are widely adopted in leading wine regions of Europe.

“Cycle tourism not only promotes a healthy lifestyle but also creates a favorable environment for the development of local tourism and, accordingly, the economy. It is especially interesting when traditional wine cellars support the promotion of healthy living. In this way, on the one hand, important regional projects are developed, and on the other hand, the social responsibility of the private sector is demonstrated,” said David Songulashvili.

Guests attending the event had the opportunity to explore stands of various bicycle manufacturers, participate in a special wine-bottling activity dedicated to the day, and learn about the prospects for eco-friendly tourism development in the region.

The cycling competition will conclude with an award ceremony, where the top three cyclists will be announced.
