Starbucks’ Entry Into the Georgian Market Moves Into Active Phase

The long-anticipated arrival of the Starbucks brand in Georgia has entered an active stage, according to Mikheil Khidureli, Director of the Make in Georgia Agency under the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development.

Khidureli confirmed that the agency has been in intensive communication with Alshaya Group—one of the world’s largest franchise operators and the exclusive partner for Starbucks in the Middle East and several international markets—over the past few years regarding the brand’s expansion into Georgia.

“The issue of Starbucks entering the Georgian market has now moved into an active phase. A high-ranking delegation from the company visited Georgia several times in 2025. In-depth market research, location inspections, and meetings with potential partners are underway in close coordination with our agency,” Khidureli stated.

According to him, the market research being conducted by Alshaya Group includes a comprehensive assessment of potential locations in Tbilisi, Batumi, and several other major cities. The company is exploring opportunities to open multiple stores across the country, reflecting growing interest in the Georgian market.

Khidureli also emphasized the involvement of Georgia’s diplomatic missions in the process:

“The Georgian Embassy in the State of Kuwait is actively engaged in supporting the negotiations. Once Alshaya Group reaches a final decision, our agency will issue an official joint statement together with the company,” he noted.

The potential entry of Starbucks marks another step in Georgia’s ongoing efforts to attract major international brands and strengthen the country’s business and retail landscape. More details are expected once the evaluation and negotiation stages conclude.
