Interagency Coordination Council Discusses Waste Management Issues at the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture

At the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, a meeting of the Interagency Coordination Council was held to discuss issues related to waste management.

The meeting was chaired by Deputy Ministers of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Zurab Ezugbaya and Solomon Pavliashvili.

Solomon Pavliashvili emphasized the challenges related to waste management and noted that improving the waste management system is one of the Ministry’s priority areas. The discussion also covered the financing of operational costs for the new modern municipal waste disposal facility.

During the meeting, it was noted that the construction of a new regional non-hazardous waste disposal facility, built to modern standards, has been completed in Kvemo Kartli.

“This facility will primarily serve the municipalities of Kvemo Kartli. Consequently, the old landfill in this area will be closed. It is important that this process continues and that existing landfills across the country are gradually replaced with new facilities,” said Zurab Ezugbaya.

The meeting of the Interagency Coordination Council was attended by heads of relevant departments of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, as well as Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Mzia Giorgobiani, Deputy Minister of Regional Development Zurab Iashvili, and representatives of the Ministries of Economy and Sustainable Development and Finance.
