Georgia Launches Production of French Cognac NAPOLEON

Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture David Songulashvili, together with Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and Speaker of Parliament Shalva Papuashvili, visited the “Kachreti Winery” enterprise, where the production of the French cognac brand NAPOLEON has officially begun in Georgia.

“Today is an important and historic day for Georgia — the bottling of cognac begins in our country. This marks a special milestone, as it is the first time a cognac brand is being produced outside of France. This achievement reflects the strong relationship and friendship between France and Georgia,” said David Songulashvili.

He recalled the origins of Georgian cognac-making, noting that the tradition began in 1888 when David Sarajishvili, after three years of study in France, introduced cognac bottling to Georgia. Sarajishvili’s legacy extended beyond Georgia to Armenia and Azerbaijan. According to Songulashvili, the revival of this century-old tradition is a testament to the trust and partnership between the two nations, and the confidence in Georgia’s stable economy and investment climate.

“Georgia has become an island of peace in the region — and that peace is exactly what makes such important decisions possible. It allows investors to see Georgia as a reliable destination. This success is thanks to your leadership, Mr. Prime Minister. I extend my sincere gratitude,” Songulashvili noted.

He also praised the Karichashvili family and the Kachreti Wine Cellar for making the project possible, stating that it is a powerful example of how peace, stability, and economic growth translate into tangible opportunities for investment and innovation.
