GCCA Fines Parcel and Cargo Transport Company Barami Logistics Ltd

The Georgian Competition and Consumer Protection Agency (GCCA) has fined parcel and cargo transport company Barami Logistics Ltd for failing to comply with its legal obligations under Georgian consumer protection legislation.

The fine, amounting to up to 8,000 GEL, was imposed due to violations of the Georgian Law on Consumer Protection. Specifically, the Agency identified the use of unfair standard contract terms, misleading commercial practices through inaction, and defective service performance.

According to the GCCA’s decision, Barami Logistics Ltd was required to bring its commercial policy into compliance with legal requirements and to restore violated consumer rights within a one-month period. The company failed to meet these obligations within the установлен timeframe.

The GCCA initiates fine proceedings when a trader, after a confirmed violation, does not fulfill its obligations to protect consumer rights. In cases of non-compliance or improper compliance with an Agency decision, a trader may be fined up to 2% of its annual turnover for the previous financial year.

The imposition of a fine does not relieve the trader of the obligation to comply with the GCCA’s decision. Moreover, if the same violation is repeated within 12 months, the imposed fine will be doubled.
